Registrations are now open for the 2026 EUA Annual Conference, on the theme of ‘University cooperation in changing contexts’. Hosted by Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Türkiye, from 16-17 April, the event will shed light on how key drivers are shaping why, how and with whom universities cooperate. We are now inviting proposals for practice presentations from EUA members for three breakout sessions at the Annual Conference (deadline: 11 February).
There is also still time to register for EUA events taking place earlier in 2026. Registrations for the EUA Council for Doctoral Education Thematic Workshop on ‘Doctoral education for the future of European R&I’ in Liège, Belgium, close on 5 January. In addition, the early-bird fee for February’s European Learning & Teaching Forum in Lisbon, Portugal, is available until 26 December. You can also still sign up for EUA’s final (online) event of 2025, in which we will discuss ‘Navigating the future of scholarly communication, Open Science and AI’ on Tuesday (16 December).
This month in Brussels, EUA joined forces with fellow stakeholder organisations representing Europe’s research and innovation community to present policy makers with a coordinated set of suggested amendments to the European Commission’s proposals for the next Horizon Europe programme (FP10).
As we wrap up our 2025 activities, several deadlines for EUA members to get involved in the Association’s future work are approaching. A call for participation in a new Thematic Peer Group on institutional data is now open (deadline: 9 January), while a call for new members of EUA’s Learning & Teaching Steering Committee closes on 7 January. Universities can also still apply to host the EUA-CDE Thematic Workshop or Annual Meeting in 2027 (deadline: 31 December) and the 2027 European Quality Assurance Forum (deadline: 31 January).
Finally, I am very pleased to let you know that EUA's Institutional Evaluation Programme has a new website, where higher education institutions and systems, as well as European Universities alliances, that are looking for support in developing strategic leadership and capacity to manage change can access essential information on EUA-IEP’s services.
With that, and as our next newsletter will reach you at the end of January, I would like to thank all of EUA’s members and wider community for your support and engagement in 2025. We look forward to seeing you in 2026 and wish you a festive and restful holiday period.
Amanda Crowfoot
EUA Secretary General
