In recent years, the alliances created under the European Universities Initiative have become an important part of the landscape of transnational university cooperation. This month, EUA published ‘The next leap forward for transnational cooperation’, a new position paper that addresses the positive impacts of this initiative, as well as some challenges that persist for universities. We identify nine key ways in which policy makers and universities can work together from now until 2030 in order to support sustainability and impact both within and beyond the alliances.
The past weeks also saw the 2024 European Higher Education Area Ministerial Conference in Tirana, Albania. Following discussions on topics including values, inclusion and mobility at this meeting and the adoption of the Tirana Communiqué, the Bologna Process is now entering into a new working cycle.
Looking ahead, you can now register for ‘Unleashing the full potential of the European innovation ecosystem’, our joint event with the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU on 10 September in Brussels. We are also now welcoming proposals for contributions to the 2025 edition of the EUA Learning and Teaching Forum, on the theme of ‘2030 and beyond: towards responsive and adaptable higher education’. In addition, EUA’s Council for Doctoral Education is currently looking for experts to join a Thematic Peer Group that will work on doctoral schools’ approaches to collaboration with partners outside of academia throughout 2025.
Finally, there is one last chance to contribute our surveys on staff development (deadline 8 July) and university finances (deadline 15 July). If your institution has not yet provided its input, we would greatly appreciate your insights on these important topics for our sector.
