As the academic year has started, it is also a period of new beginnings here in Brussels as Ursula von der Leyen has presented the composition of the next College of European Commissioners. Unfortunately, separate Commissioners are now foreseen for the education and R&I portfolios. With the hearings of the new Commissioners in the European Parliament coming up, EUA will continue to advocate for policies that benefit universities and for policy coordination within the European Commission and across the sector.
September has also seen two new EUA initiatives. We are very pleased to have launched our Digital Transformation Map, which presents a rich and diverse collection of practice examples within the digital sphere from across Europe’s university sector. In addition, senior university leaders from our member universities can now apply to join the first cohort of our pilot Leadership Development Programme; the deadline for applications is 24 October.
Finally, a word for our members: you can still respond to our membership survey until next Friday (4 October), and we would be most grateful for your input. Please also keep an eye out for exclusive membership events, such as our upcoming webinar on knowledge security (22 October) and workshop on artificial intelligence (5 November; please express your interest by 15 October).
EUA is a community of over 900 members and affiliates. It represents universities and national rectors’ conferences in 49 European countries, as well as affiliated organisations and networks based both in and beyond Europe. As the voice of Europe’s universities, EUA supports and takes forward the interests of individual institutions and the higher education sector as a whole.
